About the Artist – Chaya De Silva

Chaya De Silva (b. Sri Lanka)

Chaya De Silva is a contemporary mixed-media artist based in Surrey, UK, whose work is a vibrant dialogue between her Sri Lankan heritage and modern British expressionism. Raised within a family of Batik artisans, De Silva’s foundational "schooling" was in the tactile world of textile dyes and structural layering—a history that now manifests in her aggressive use of impasto and reclaimed lace.

With a background in Business (University of Sunderland), De Silva approaches the canvas with both discipline and raw instinct. Her practice explores the "chromatic frequency" of the human form, utilizing heavy texture and drips to physicalize emotion. A mother of three, her work often mirrors the complexities of identity, growth, and the "layered" nature of a woman's journey.

De Silva has exhibited internationally, including the International Contemporary Art Fair Monaco (2023) and FLUX Exhibition London (2024). Her work is held in private collections worldwide, bridging the gap between traditional craft and high-contemporary figuration.
